Michael J Scanlan. Michael Joseph Scanlan (1873 - 1957) was born in Killaloe, son of John Scanlan and Sarah Smyth. His obituary states: Michael J. Scanlan, president of the Reidy-Scanlan Co. and prominent in Lorain business circles for more than 50 years, died last night at MacGillis Hospital, Cleveland. He was 84 years old. Mr. Scanlan, who lived at 1054 Hillsdale Ave., suffered a stroke last Oct. 18 and had been in poor health since. Born in Killaloe, Co. Clare, Ireland, Mr. Scanlan came to the U.S. at the age of 19, settling first in Detroit, and then in Cleveland, before coming to Lorain in 1905. He had been actively engaged as a funeral director until the beginning of his illness in October.
