Garraunboy Church. Garraunboy Catholic Church. The foundation stone was blessed by Bishop Michael Fogarty on 27 June 1909. Garraunboy Church was built of local sandstone and roofed with Killaloe-Ballina slates. The contractor was William Davoren, Ogonelloe and the Clerk of Works was John Scanlan of Criabh Ruadh (Creeveroe). On 18 December 1909, the feast of St. Flannan, the new church was blessed and dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The new Church of the Sacred Heart & St. Lua was opened to public worship on Saturday, 25th December 1909.
George Hackman Headstone. The headstone of George Hackman in Garraunboy Graveyard. The inscription reads:
'Sacred to the memory of George Hackman (Lewie). For 38 years a valued & faithful friend of Mr & Mrs. Scanlan of Gortmagee by whom this stone was erected. He died February 5 1932 aged 75 years. Sweet Jesus give him eternal rest.' A man of short stature, George was born in Belfast and worked for a circus. Once, when the circus was in Killaloe it left town without him. He was wandering around the town for a few days and Bridget Scanlan took him in as a servant to help with the housework. Bridget's daughter-in-law, Margaret, had him baptized when he became an old man and when he died in he was laid to rest in Garraunboy.
Canon Charles Scanlan's Grave. Canon Charles Scanlan's Grave in Garraunboy Churchyard, Killaloe. The inscription reads: Pray for the soul of Very Rev. Charles Canon Scanlan Garranboy, Killaloe (Late of the Diocese of Plymouth) who died 22nd April 1972 aged 82 years.
Window, St Flannan’s Church, Killaloe. A stained glass window by Harry Clarke in St Flannan’s Church, Killaloe. The window was donated by Josephine Scanlan in memory of her mother-in-law, Eliza Scanlan and Eliza's son Michael, Josephine's husband. The inscription reads: To the glory of God, in memory of Eliza Scanlan who died 21st. May, 1925, and her son Michael who died 21st. January, 1923. R.I.P. Pray for the donor Josephine Scanlan.
John Scanlan & Margaret Farrell. The wedding photo of John Scanlan of Gortmagee, Killaloe and Margaret Farrell of Cloonfadda, Killaloe. John was the son of Patrick Scanlan and Bridget Scanlan nee Bugler.
Scanlan Headstone, Evanston, Illinois. The headstone of Fathers James and John Scanlan from Creeveroe, Killaloe and their niece Mary. The inscription reads: Rev. James M. Scanlan. Born July 18 1864. Ordained May 26 1888. Died December 4, 1934. Rev. John B. Scanlan. Born October 20 1869. Ordained June 18 1898. Died June 28 1931. Mary M. Scanlan. Died Feb. 9, 1977.
Fr Edmund Scanlan. Father Edmund Scanlan (1892-1953) of Chicago. Fr Scanlan was the son of Patrick Scanlan and bridget Scanlan nee Bugler of Gortmagee, Killaloe. Fr Scanlan was educated by Matthew Tuohy, Classical Teacher, Killaloe, and at St Flannan's College, Ennis and at All Hallows College, Dublin where he was ordained on 5 May,1918. Fr Eddie, as he was known, was a priest in the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, USA. At the time of his death in 1953 he was Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Pittsfield, Illinois.
