Garraunboy Church. Garraunboy Catholic Church. The foundation stone was blessed by Bishop Michael Fogarty on 27 June 1909. Garraunboy Church was built of local sandstone and roofed with Killaloe-Ballina slates. The contractor was William Davoren, Ogonelloe and the Clerk of Works was John Scanlan of Criabh Ruadh (Creeveroe). On 18 December 1909, the feast of St. Flannan, the new church was blessed and dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The new Church of the Sacred Heart & St. Lua was opened to public worship on Saturday, 25th December 1909.
George Hackman Headstone. The headstone of George Hackman in Garraunboy Graveyard. The inscription reads:
'Sacred to the memory of George Hackman (Lewie). For 38 years a valued & faithful friend of Mr & Mrs. Scanlan of Gortmagee by whom this stone was erected. He died February 5 1932 aged 75 years. Sweet Jesus give him eternal rest.' A man of short stature, George was born in Belfast and worked for a circus. Once, when the circus was in Killaloe it left town without him. He was wandering around the town for a few days and Bridget Scanlan took him in as a servant to help with the housework. Bridget's daughter-in-law, Margaret, had him baptized when he became an old man and when he died in he was laid to rest in Garraunboy.
Canon Charles Scanlan's Grave. Canon Charles Scanlan's Grave in Garraunboy Churchyard, Killaloe. The inscription reads: Pray for the soul of Very Rev. Charles Canon Scanlan Garranboy, Killaloe (Late of the Diocese of Plymouth) who died 22nd April 1972 aged 82 years.
